Life Drawing- Fifth Session

Apologies: the original photos had lines across the image, so I've done a few close up images since, to clear it up, and help emphasis the 'movement' of the images.

'5 minute turn-around drawings'

As you can see, the tendency to draw too many lines (as mentioned in the first life drawing post), is in play again. Drawing the same bit over and over again, while good at establishing a better composition...also means an unclear message, and while in someways expressive, weight and space can become unclear.

The last image of this series shows a more clearer approach in play. Weight, as indicated by the back, and the shoulder, also helps ground the image a little.
The line of the cloth also helps emphasis the general movement of the model's turn.

'1 minute poses'
Here we were given a second try at this activity, working with six more 1 minute poses. This time round I'd attempted to use fewer lines, and had also used arrows to quickly remind myself the general direction the overall body should be suggesting, in each scenario.

'45 minute pose'
Finally, we finished with a 45 minute pose, where I'd used pencil and promarker pens to try and lead the viewer's eyes back into the image.
I applied the scarlet hue to both the large cloth (as seen reclining back, across the length of the floor), and the smaller cloth resting on the arm of the settee, so to draw attention from the immediate vocal point to the smaller, though similar, piece of fabric further back).

The mark making wasn't particularly good, but that's only expected since I haven't had much experience with these pens. I must keep working at it, (using a vaster range of colours, and learning how best to apply it), and also experiment with alternative mediums, and colours in future life drawing sessions.

Life Drawing's been  undoubtedly challenging. But at the same time, it's definitely been fun experimenting with setting up a scene with all the seperate components I've been working on over the years. Now things feel a little like they're coming together, though there's still a long way to go.
We've a Halloween special coming up soon, which is a mystery, but should be really good!
